Post-tensioning (PT) is a method of reinforcing (strengthening) concrete or other materials with high-strength steel strands or bars, typically referred to as tendons. Stretching the tendons to a specific length creates a compressive force throughout the concrete cross section that improves its strength, durability and performance. PT can be used for various structures, such as buildings, bridges, parking structures and stadiums. As the world-wide authority on PT, the Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) is dedicated to expanding PT applications through marketing, education, research, teamwork and code development.
